PowerPC Com-Express modules

Note that some of these modules are "compatible" to the standard, but not always "compliant". Some change what a few pins are used for. Some may not be truely compatible, but derive from the Com-Expres spec.

There already exist a few Com-Express computer modules using PowerPC processors.

  • XCOM-9347 by Actis uses a Freescale MPC8347E at 400MHz, and is in the "compact" size of 95mm x 95mm.
  • XCOM-9460 by Actis uses an Applied Micro PPC460EX at 600MHz to 1GHz, and is in the "compact size of 95mm x 95mm.
  • VPX1 from Varisys uses a Freescale QorIQ P1022.
  • COMX-P4080 from Emerson Network Power uses a Freescale QorIQ P4080 at 1.5GHz, and is in the "standard" 125mm x 95mm size.
  • COMX-P2020 from Emerson Network Power uses a Freescale QorIQ P2020 at 1.2GHz, and is in "compact" 95mm x 95mm size.
  • COMe-bP5020 from Kontron has a Freescale QorIQ P5020 at 1.5GHz
  • COMe-cP2020 from Kontron has a Freescale QorIQ P2020 at 1.2GHz
  • Adbc7515 from Eurotech uses a Freescale MPC8572 at 1.5GHz, and is in the "standard" size of 125mm x 95mm.
  • Adbc7517 from Eurotech uses a Freescale QorIQ 4080 at 1.5GHz , and is in the "basic" size of 125mm x 95mm.
  • Adbc7519 from Eurotech uses Freescale QorIQ 2020 at 1.2GHz, and is in the "compact" size of 95mm x 95mm.
  • Adbc7520 from Eurotech uses Freescale QorIQ 1021 at 800MHz, and is in the "compact" size of 95mm x 95mm.
  • MPC8536-ADK from Freescale uses their MPC8536 at 1.25GHz, and is in?? size., and had been the 8536's RDK board as well. This module is paired with their CSB1801 MicroATX carrier. I believe the graphics chip is on the carrier in this case. Though it's marked as no longer manufactured. :/ This kit had previously been marketed as a Digital Signage reference design/kit, and I believe is designed by or in conjunction with Cogent Computer Systems Inc.
  • Aria by Denx uses a Freescale MPC5121e at 400MHz

Adapters from other module formats to Com-Express carrier

  • AE12 from MEN Mikro adapts ESM-Express modules onto Com-Express Type 2 carrier.This allows their XM50 Freescale MPC8548(e)/8543(e) ESM-Express module to be used in a Com-Express host.

  • Whitepaper by Freescale and Emerson describing a proposed new pinout type. They say that some pins are too x86-specific such as AC97, HD-Audio, LPC, etc. While a few things could be described as x86-specific, I disagree about the audio and LPC pins, and I'd like those properly supported by a PowerPC board. But that's just me as an Amiga nut.
  • Webinar by Emerson and Arrow about their QorIQ modules and Com-Express intro. First half hour introduces QorIQ chips, ComExpress starts after that.
